Meet Tanushree Goel: A Teenage Poet and Aspiring Pilot Soaring Beyond Limits
Pursuing a Career as a Pilot
Society often questions a woman’s ability to drive, let alone fly. However, the truth is that women not only excel at driving but also take to the skies with exceptional skill. Despite facing societal prejudices and the constant pressure to prove themselves, women bring a heightened sense of responsibility and care, prioritizing safety and precision.
Currently, I am preparing for my Commercial Pilot License (CPL). Initially, convincing my parents to support my dream of aviation was challenging, as the field is traditionally seen as male-dominated. However, the reality is quite different—India has more female pilots than male pilots today, proving that women are breaking barriers in aviation.
The Writing Journey
Writing is my love, my passion, my everything. It is an outlet for my emotions, a force that pushes me to go the extra mile in my pursuit of independence and self-sufficiency.
When people say that girls are overly emotional, I simply reply: “Girls don’t cry; they express.” Society often expects boys to hide their emotions, but why suppress feelings? My poetry speaks of emotions, love, teenage dreams, and self-expression. Currently, I am working on my next book, where I aim to shed light on boys’ emotions as well, encouraging them to embrace their vulnerability.
Writing has transformed me—it has boosted my confidence and given me a sense of achievement. I feel proud of my journey as a writer.
Hunger for Independence
Independence is crucial, especially for girls. In Indian society, it is often believed that a girl must depend on her father, then her husband, and later her children. But why should that be the norm?
Early independence empowers women to make their own decisions. I strongly believe in “being independent and being single”—why conform to societal expectations when you can live life on your own terms?
The Burden of Conditional Love
As children, we often face conditional love—both at home and in school. In schools, teachers shower attention on toppers while ignoring average students. At home, love sometimes comes with conditions: “If you achieve this, you will get that.”
These conditional expectations suppress a child’s emotions. I often wonder—why does love need conditions? Shouldn’t love be given freely, without expectations?
Message to Girls
Never criticize yourself. Believe in yourself, trust your destiny, and know that if something is meant for you, it will find its way to you.
